Day Boats Jessop and Rennie

2022 PRICES FROZEN FOR 2024!

A great way to have a relaxing family day out in the countryside!

Jessop (right) is named after William Jessop, chief engineer for the construction of the Grand Junction canal, the waterway that you will be cruising, which is now over 200 years old.

Rennie (below right) has operated locally for many years and is named after the canal engineer John Rennie, who was one of the engineers responsible for the Blisworth tunnel nearby.

From our wharf near Weedon there is an idyllic lock-free stretch of tranquil waterway to cruise without any canal locks to negotiate.

There are opportunities for canal side pubs for lunch, ask us for details if you are thinking of booking a table, or plenty of scenic spots to stop for a picnic.

We are based near Dodmoor House Wedding Venue and can take wedding parties by water, please ring for details.

Jessop takes a maximum of 10 people and Rennie takes a maximum of 8 people.

Layouts consist of indoor seating and table, outdoor seating, a simple galley with a gas hob, so you can make teas and coffees, and a toilet.

Both boats are easy to operate, we will give you full tuition on how to operate it when you arrive.

Life jackets are available on request.

If you would like to bring your pet then you need to discuss this with us first.

Handover:
When you arrive you will receive instruction on vessel operation, it will be given in accordance with the Boatyard Accreditation and Hire Boat Code guidelines that we adhere to.

One of us will give you a comprehensive show round and boat handling tuition and will stay with you until you are happy and then hop off and leave you to your day out, All the information given on the handover is also in a manual on board as is a contact telephone number. You will be required to sign a document to say that you have received the handover tuition and you will also be required to list the number and names of all the people in your group. You are not permitted to pick up or swap/change anyone who is not on this list.

We do not hire out both day boats as a single hire, if you are looking for something to accommodate a larger group please speak to us.

Alcohol policy:
It is a myth that drink-driving rules do not apply to canals, they do! We will not allow excessive amounts of alcohol to be taken on board and we will decline to handover the boat where we feel this might be an issue. There must at all times be at least two people within the legal alcohol limit and alcohol consumption by the rest of the crew needs to be an acceptable amount where it does not impede their ability to conduct themselves in a safe manner. If any boat crew is reported causing disruption on the waterway then they will be escorted from the boat and all payments and cash security deposits will be forfeited. In short if you are looking for a booze cruise don’t book self-drive!

Day hire is from 9am to 4.30pm and a refundable cash deposit of £100 is taken on arrival, short evening cruises also require a cash deposit, this is returned when the boat is back at the wharf on time and in a tidy condition.
